Welcome to our blog! Results so far...

The idea of this site is to test the idea that social media can help spread the idea of savings groups. I've been thinking about this a lot for the last several years, and finally realized that no one else was going to test this, and it was time for me to just try it and see what happened. It took much longer than I expected to get the site ready, and I procrastinated a lot: I know I was thinking, if it works, then I'll have a lot of additional work, and if it doesn't work, I'll have a failure. But - I love this work, so here we go!

This site launched four days ago on March 20, 2018, with a mailing to 972 people on the Savings Revolution mailing list. Since then, we've had 156 visitors. The site is primarily intended for people in North America, but we've had visitors from 29 countries. The US has had the greatest number of visitors (32%). In second place is Malawi - not sure why!

On March 19, the day before I sent out the mailing, I posted an announcement of the site on Facebook. That was useless.  I only had two likes - both from members of my own family. The reason I realize is that Facebook saw this as an opportunity to make money. Their computers read the post, and from the language I used they thought I was selling something, so they suppressed the announcement and sent me a message saying I could reach more people if I "boosted" the post, that is, if I sent them 20 dollars. I probably will do that, but ... Facebook. Ugh.

It's still early to say how effective the site has been, or will be. So far, I have had only one person who clearly wants to form a group. That's not much. But, I know that Social Media needs to be managed and aggressively promoted. I've been reading up on how to do that, and the next post will have some news about that.

Anyway, much more to do in the social media sphere. Twitter, looking for sites to link with, boosting the Savings Revolution page, and cross-blogging. (I'll also be reaching out the old fashioned way, by phone and email. I have a couple of HOT contacts, and I'll get in touch with them next week.)

So - if you're interested - stand by! More to come soon.
